Sizing Guide

Equafleece measuring is unique! We don’t just measure straight down the back, so non-Equafleece garments can’t be used as a size guide.

We use five measurements:

A Length – from the centre of the breastbone along the side of the dog to the base of the tail.
B Neck – around the neck where the collar goes.
C Chest/Girth – around the deepest part of the rib cage.
D Waist – around the narrowest part of the body in front of the back legs.
E Backbone – from the base of the neck along the backbone to the base of the tail. It should be less than the A measurement.

How to measure your dog

Measuring Your Dog

You can measure in centimetres (cm) or inches. Round your measurements to the nearest centimetre or half inch. If using inches, beware of inch tape measures from China – a Chinese “inch” is about 30% longer than a standard inch!

Make sure your dog is standing up straight, looking forward and not arching its back. Measure snug to the body using a soft tape measure. If you don’t have one, use a piece of string to take each measurement and read it off on a metal tape measure or ruler.

The video below shows you how to measure step-by-step.

Working Out What Size You Need

On each product page there’s a size calculator. Simply press the What Size Do I Need? button, enter your measurements, choose the body shape corresponding to your dog and press the Calculate button. The matching size will be selected automatically.

If the calculator doesn’t match a size, don’t panic! Carefully re-measure and try again. The calculator may tell you which measurement to check in particular. The E measurement should be less than the A measurement.

If the calculator still can’t match a size, send us your dog’s measurements, breed and age, or call us for advice.

If the size you order turns out not to fit, we’re happy to exchange or refund as long as it’s in resaleable condition. So try it on a clean dog indoors and see it moving to assess the fit.

It’s rare we can’t fit a dog in a standard size, but if necessary we can make to measure (at extra cost) between March and October. Please note that bespoke garments can’t be exchanged or refunded.

How do I measure my dog?

The Measuring Your Dog video above shows you step-by-step. If you have any questions or problems, contact us for help.

Why can’t I just measure along the dog’s back?

Our measuring system is different to other brands. The main measurement (A) is from the centre of the breastbone along the side of the dog to the base of the tail. This takes shoulder width into account, ensuring the best fit.

Why won’t the size calculator match a size?

Mostly it’s incorrect measurements or choosing the wrong body shape in the calculator. Wriggly dogs can be hard to measure, so try getting someone else to distract them with a toy or treat. If you’ve tried everything with no joy, contact us for help.

What if the garment doesn’t fit?

We’re happy to exchange or refund as long as it’s in resaleable condition and not smelly, dirty or hairy, and hasn’t been washed or brushed.

What if my dog doesn’t fit a standard size?

This is rare, but if so we can make to measure between March and October. It does cost extra, and the garment can’t be exchanged or refunded.
